So How Does the New Chronicles Line Look Alongside Other MOTU Lines?

In my last post reviewing Chronicles King Grayskull, I mentioned I would try to do a separate article comparing this new figure against a few Masterverse examples. So here we go! Plus I’ve thrown in a few extras from other lines to try to give a really good idea of how this brand new Chronicles line sizes up.

Origins

Despara

I compared King Grayskull against Origins Despara in the review mostly due to the weird size comparison on Mattel’s Creations website. Chronicles King Grayskull is much taller than this Despara, don’t believe Mattel!

Despara Height: 14cm/roughly 5.5 inches tall
Chronicles King Grayskull Height: 17.5cm/6.8 inches tall

Another side by side height comparison photo. On the left of the photo is King Grayskull while on the right is Despara. The Despara figure only just comes up to the shoulder on King Grayskull and is overall a much slighter figure too. Despara has gray and black armour with a bright red cape. The figure is wearing a bone white mask with a monstrous face on it.

Clamp Champ

The Origins female figures are all quite small and slight in build. So for thoroughness, here’s King Grayskull and Origins Clamp Champ.

The Chronicles figure is taller of course, but the Origins figure is much broader due to the vintage style muscly build.

Clamp Champ Height: 14.5cm/roughly 5.8 inches tall
Chronicles King Grayskull Height: 17.5cm/6.8 inches tall

Origins – Cartoon Collection Skeletor

Possibly I’m going a bit overboard, but what the hey.

The Origins Cartoon Collection figures all stand a little taller than the standard Origins figures. So out of curiosity, here’s King Grayskull alongside Skeletor from the Cartoon Collection.

Skeletor Height: just over 15cm/6 inches tall
Chronicles King Grayskull Height: 17.5cm/6.8 inches tall

Masters of the Universe Classics He-Ro II

I don’t have many Classics figures at all. However I do have He-Ro II which is handy as this character uses the basic Classics male figure. Perfect to compare Chronicles King Grayskull against.

These two figures actually scale quite well together. The Classics figure has a much bigger build though.

Note their similarly styled Swords.

He-Ro II Height: 17.5cm/6.8 inches tall
Chronicles King Grayskull Height: 17.5cm/6.8 inches tall

He-Ro II is about the same height as King Grayskull but has a much more muscular build. This figure is wearing a blue chest harness with a central red gem.

Masterverse

Revelation Scare Glow

Some of the older Masterverse figures had a slightly shorter and slimmer build. This was due to them using the original torso which was comparatively slim along with narrower and shorter legs.

This Scare Glow is a good example as it makes use of both.

Although these two figures scale really well together, this Scare Glow still has the larger build overall.

Scare Glow Height: 17.5cm/6.8 inches tall
Chronicles King Grayskull Height: 17.5cm/6.8 inches tall

Revelation King Grayskull

Although this version of King Grayskull uses the older, slimmer Masterverse torso, the legs used are chunkier and longer than Scare Glow’s. Along with the huge, faux fur collar, they create an imposing version of the character.

Let’s face it, Chronicles King Grayskull looks tiny in comparison! It’s not just the Masterverse figure’s height, it’s also its bulkier build too.

Revelation King Grayskull Height: 18.5cm/roughly 7.3 inches tall
Chronicles King Grayskull Height: 17.5cm/6.8 inches tall

Two King Grayskull figures side by side. On the left of the photo is the Chronicles version while on the right is the Masterverse Revelation version. The latter figure has a brown skin tone and long black hair braids. It's wearing a red cape with a faux white fur collar trim.

New Eternia Viking He-Man

Uses exactly the same build as Revelation King Grayskull. The pointy helmet horns do make this figure a little taller though!

New Eternia Viking He-Man Height: 19cm/7.5 inches tall
Chronicles King Grayskull Height: 17.5cm/6.8 inches tall

The new Chronicles King Grayskull figure standing alongside the Viking He-Man figure. King Grayskull is on the left and is quite a bit shorter than the other figure.

New Eternia Flying Fists He-Man

This elaborate version of He-Man is one of the later figures to come from the New Eternia line. It keeps the chunkier and longer legs but adds a newer and bigger torso.

This really shows up the scale difference between the two lines. Yes, this version of He-Man is a big lad but King Grayskull is supposed to be too! It’s a shame as the design of this King Grayskull sort of fits with this Flying Fists He-Man.

40th Anniversary He-Man

This He-Man featured yet another style of torso! I think this is intended as a Masterverse version of the huge, muscly torsos of the vintage line. It’s a bit over the top, giving He-Man a huge chest but it’s another fun comparison.

40th Anniversary He-Man Height: 18.5cm/roughly 7.3 inches tall
Chronicles King Grayskull Height: 17.5cm/6.8 inches tall

This He-Man is wearing the classic grey chest harness with red cross but also has an overlarge and muscular torso.

Princess of Power She-Ra

The older female Masterverse figures had a slightly different design and build than later figures from the line.

These older figures stand a little shorter than the later ones (see below) and scale very well with this King Grayskull.

These two actually go together really well if you ask me!

Princess of Power She-Ra Height: 17.5cm/6.8 inches tall
Chronicles King Grayskull Height: 17.5cm/6.8 inches tall

New Etheria She-Ra

Another She-Ra, but this later one has the revised design and build that Mattel switched to for the more recent female figures. The leg design in particular is longer which makes this quite a tall figure.

New Etheria She-Ra Height: 18cm/roughly 7.1 inches tall
Chronicles King Grayskull Height: 17.5cm/6.8 inches tall

A side by side height comparison photo of the King Grayskull and New Etheria She-Ra figures. On the left of the photo is King Grayskull while on the right is She-Ra. This version of She-Ra has a white and gold head dress with a winged design over her head.

Hopefully this helps give a better idea of how the new Chronicles line scales against Mattel’s other Masters of the Universe lines.

There’s no getting away from the fact that these new figures are much shorter than the larger He-Man style Masterverse figures. However the Masterverse line as a whole does vary in height from character to character. Some of the shorter ones like Scare Glow or the older She-Ra figure don’t tower over Chronicles figures at all and they look pretty good next to each other.
