“The Heroic Water-Blasting Firefighter!

When the evil forces of Eternia pillage towns, Snout Spout charges into blazing infernos set by their torches to save the villages from its intruders, be they Skeletor or the Evil Horde.” – Box art bio

A closer look at the head and trunk of Snout Spout. These are made from a silver metallic plastic. The head has large ears, tusks and an articulated trunk which is pointed up and towards the camera in this photo.

An Elephantine Hero!

Having gotten a taste for the over sized Masterverse figures – check out my reviews of New Eternia Deluxe Beast Man and Revelation Deluxe Skelegod – the next obvious figure to get was Snout Spout!

New Eternia Snout Spout is a Mattel Creations exclusive. I bought this figure in autumn 2024 when purchasing from Creations was still a bit easier for non-US based collectors. I’ll talk about this a bit more in the “Where to Buy” section near the end of this review.

As a Creations exclusive, this Snout Spout figure got the full treatment: an over sized figure, loads of accessories, unique features and it came in plastic free packaging featuring awesome art work – just as with Vykron.

Eternian Firefighter!

As the bio at the top suggests, Snout Spout is themed around being a fire fighter. This goes back to the vintage toy from the 1980s which even squirted water from the trunk! No such action feature here alas, but the articulated trunk more than makes up for that in my book.

Why the cybernetic elephant head, I’m not sure. There were some really odd characters in the vintage Masters of the Universe line and Snout Spout was certainly amongst the oddest. Mind you, younger me was perfectly happy with an elephant headed hero, because why the hell not?!

Boxart

As with Vykron, Snout Spout’s packaging is what some have unflatteringly termed a “shoe box”! I like this plastic free packaging though and it features fantastic art work.

The art work features lots of Snake Men teases. The box insert has an awesome scene with statues of King Hssss and Lady Slither. This does make one wonder whether the Snake Men faction are coming to the Masterverse line. However, seeing as Snout Spout was released in 2023 and Kobra Khan has only just been released in autumn 2025, we might have to be patient for a while yet.

Figure Overview

In this photo, Snout Spout is standing along side a tape measure to show the figure's height - about 20.5cm.
Snout Spout alongside a tape measure. At about 20.5cm this is one of the tallest figures I’ve looked at.

This is an absolutely amazing figure! There are so many things to mention it’s hard to know where to start. The head alone features movable ears, tusks and a light piping feature in the eyes. The armour and accessories all cleverly revolve around the fire fighter theme.

Oh, and the trunk is articulated! I can remember as a kid wishing that Snout Spout’s trunk could be posed around a bit. Sure, it was a bit rubbery and flexible but you couldn’t really get it in a pose at all. That’s been fixed here and in such a way that the joints fit into the whole cybernetic elephant head design.

Size Comparison

Snout Spout is a very tall and bulky figure, an impression that’s reinforced by the huge cybernetic elephant head and trunk. Measuring right up to the tip of Snout Spout’s ears, I make it about 20.5cm (or just over 8 inches). That makes this the tallest Masterverse figure I’ve got so far.

Snout Spout absolutely towers over Barbarian Skeletor. Even Vykron who is a bit taller than Skeletor, is dwarfed.

New Eternia Beast Man is still bulkier overall I think. Skelegod is beginning to get relegated though in the size department!

Design

Initially I thought Snout Spout was using the same mould for the arms and legs as Skelegod. They both feature those mid-thigh and mid-bicep straps after all. Looking closer, they are different with Snout Spout’s upper arms in particular being bigger. The beefed up torso is different too, meaning that Snout Spout is using a completely unique body design.

Unlike some of the other New Eternia figures I’ve looked at so far, Snout Spout doesn’t take quite so much inspiration from early development and concept designs of the character. There are some design call backs though:

  • The overall design of the head seems to be more reminiscent of the concept look than the finished 1980s toy.
  • Although the boots on this figure are a dark blue instead of the orange in the concept designs, their look is quite similar.
  • Some of the armour parts on this figure (such as the parts that go over the shoulders) are also reminiscent of the concept design.

Once again, I’m referring to an article from the excellent Battle Ram blog. If you take a look at the Design & Development section in the Snout Spout article, it’s interesting to note that an early concept for the character was much more organic looking.

Having said all of the above, if you take off most of the armour accessories, you do wind up with a Snout Spout that isn’t too far off from the vintage toy.

Put everything back on, and this is a very suped up and awesome Snout Spout!

Paint Application

Although the paint has been applied very neatly and cleanly on my figure, it is mostly restricted to picking out details. For example the straps on the arms and legs, details on the head and trunk and on the boots. All very neatly done.

The boots do have a subtle dark wash on them I think and – this is easier to see once the armour is removed – the body has a darker orange wash too.

The head and trunk is moulded in a silvery grey plastic rather than being painted. I think this works better as I can imagine that with all of the joints in the trunk, any paint would soon chip off.

Articulation

Despite the large size, all of the established Masterverse articulation is present. There are a few changes though:

  • The usual:
    • Ball joint at the head/neck.
    • Mid-torso joint.
    • Waist joint.
    • Shoulders can go all the way around and out to a “T” pose.
    • Bicep swivels.
    • Wrists can go all the way around and move in and out.
    • Hip joints can go forward and backwards as well as all the way out sideways.
    • Thigh swivels.
    • Double joints at the knees.
    • Boot cut swivels.
    • And finally, the ankles can go up and down along with rocking side to side.
  • New:
    • Single joints at the elbows. Not sure why this was changed for Snout Spout. It does mean the bicep cuts that bother some people are not present here. However some articulation is sacrificed. The elbows do also swivel out and in slightly though.
    • Drop down hip joints. These are new to me but I think this is something that was added to the 2023 waves of figures.
    • Ears! These can be moved forwards and backwards.
    • Tusks! Can be turned around.
    • The trunk!

Although Snout Spout’s head is very unique, the ball joint is the standard Masterverse size. This means you can easily do some head swaps with other figures although the results are very odd looking!

Articulated Trunk

I think the trunk is worth going into separately.

The trunk is made from the same metallic plastic as the rest of the head and is divided into five segments. Each segment is jointed which allows for a large amount of movement. I think kid me is finally satisfied with this!

I think this out classes the Classics version whose trunk was made from a soft plastic with a wire running through it. Yes, it was flexible and posable but has a reputation for cracking.

The jointed design on this version of Snout Spout really gels with the whole cybernetic look too.

Accessories

Again, there’s a lot to cover here:

  • Firefighter’s axe.
  • Back pack.
  • Three flexible tubes, two long and one short.
  • Belt with a gauge on it.
  • Torso harness which is removable plus has a pair of shoulder plates which are also removable. (These latter two are moulded in a more brittle plastic, so take some care if you do want to remove them.)
  • Two pairs of hands – one gripping pair and one pair in fists.
  • Finally, a translucent water effect piece.

There are also interesting details like the “gauge” on the belt and the painted-on water levels on the back of the back pack. The latter being a call back perhaps to the original vintage toy. The back pack on this version was where the water was stored for the action feature.

Light Piping Feature

A neat feature I should single out is the light piping in Snout Spout’s head. If you place the figure in front of a light source, the eyes light up! It’s perhaps not as distinctive as light up eyes say, but it’s neat little added feature to the figure.

Final Thoughts

When doing a bit of background reading on Snout Spout, I found out that he was considered a bit of an oddball and down beat character. It wasn’t until the 200x line of figures that he was revamped with a meaner design.

Although this New Eternia version does it’s own thing, this figure of Snout Spout continues that trend in making him a truly imposing figure. It really is fantastic and dare I say it, the best version of Snout Spout so far!

If I’ve got any niggles at all, those pipes are a bit fiddly, coming off quite easily and generally getting in the way a bit. This is a really minor nit pick though, I do think they add a lot to the figure and in any case, can easily be left off if you do find them annoying.

Where to Buy

Snout Spout is a Mattel Creations Exclusive which means it’s only available new from the Creations website. That was fine and was actually where I bought this figure back in autumn 2024.

However, at the end of 2024/beginning of 2025, Mattel decided to set up dedicated Creations websites for different geographic areas in addition to the main US one. The UK got one and I think Germany now has one too.

No problem with this change at all except for the strange reason that anything released prior to January 2025 is only available on the US Creations website…. and it won’t ship those older figures to the UK anymore!

So, by sheer luck I managed to get an order in before these changes. Anybody outside of the US will now have to hunt down the Snout Spout figure on secondary websites like eBay. All a bit of a drag!
