While I was putting together a review of the MOTU Revelation version of Scare Glow, news was breaking about an upcoming new version of the Evil Ghost of Skeletor. The lesson is obviously, if you take ages over reviewing a figure a new version will come along!

With the Masterverse line being cancelled or at least having releases drastically reduced, this new version will be in the new Chronicles line. Let’s unpick this a bit as it’s more complicated than it sounds.
Rumours and Box Art Teases
In the second half of last year, a new Scare Glow figure was rumoured for Masterverse. It was either going to be added to the New Eternia or the Vintage Collection sub-lines, depending on which version of the rumour you subscribed to.
Around this time, Scare Glow appeared on the box art for New Eternia Ninjor. Although box art teases are by no means perfect indicators for what might be coming up, this did seem to tie things together. So I sat back and waited for news of a new Masterverse Scare Glow figure sometime in 2026.
The Cold Light of a New Year
With 2026 still quite new, more details of the Chronicles line emerged from the New York Toy Fair. This plus the news of the (possible) demise of the Masterverse line caused my dreams of a New Eternia Scare Glow to evaporate.
But Hark! A New Figure!
Jump forwards a bit to earlier this month and news articles started popping up about a new Chronicles Scare Glow figure! Not only that, but a couple of lucky people “accidentally” received the new Scare Glow figure to replace damaged figures of other characters – I think this was through Walmart in the US.
He-Mania.com has done an excellent job following this as details emerged. Firstly the initial article about the figure that was received out of the blue. And then a follow up article with Mattel issuing official details.
It seems that some employees of Walmart perhaps sent out the wrong figure as replacements? Or was this an attempt at some viral marketing?
Either way, one of the lucky people uploaded a video review on YouTube.
I must say this all seems a bit arse over elbow of Mattel but maybe there’s a hidden master plan behind it all!
The Start of a New Chronicles Sub-Line?
The Scare Glow figure itself looks pretty awesome and it’s design has made a few people wonder whether this is a New Eternia design ported over to the new Chronicles body plan.
Which brings me to my final point. This new Scare Glow figure doesn’t seem to be directly related to the upcoming 2026 live action movie. All news related to Chronicles figures so far have been to do with movie-related figures.
So this could be the first sign that the new Chronicles line will cover more than just movie related characters and designs. I guess this is similar to how the Masterverse line kicked off with Revelation based figures and then moving beyond that with the New Eternia, Princess of Power, etc. sub-lines.
Also note the “Inaugural Edition” tagline on the box. Is that a one off or the title of a new sub-line within Chronicles? I guess we’ll have to wait to find out.
So that’s certainly one way to go about announcing a new figure!
Update: Pre-Orders Are Live!
As I’ve been preparing this article, pre-orders for this Scare Glow are starting to go live. If you’re in the UK like me, you’ll want to head over to The Whole Shebang and check out the product page.
