This year’s San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) is currently underway. It’s an interesting one for Mattel and Masters of the Universe as the 2026 movie has been and gone (although it’s newly available to stream). So I would assume Mattel are now looking to expand the new Chronicles line beyond movie-based figures.
That certainly seems to be the case, although movie-based figures are still going to be sprinkled throughout the various waves right through 2027.
Here are some quick takes:
Masterverse
Since I started collecting, this will be the first time that there hasn’t been any new Masterverse figures on display at SDCC. That’s a bit sad!
It’s not all doom and gloom though. There is absolutely nothing certain, but there’s a very small possibility the line isn’t completely dead. This might just be Mattel not wanting to be cornering themselves on the matter of course, so do take with a big pinch of salt. I do wonder however, whether the Vintage Collection might be going beyond 2026 and into 2027?
Movie Based Chronicles
I guess it’s not a shock now that the movie is old news – and didn’t perform very well at the box office! – but this line seems to be moving to a slower release schedule. With each new wave of figures, one will be based on the movie. These are the ones I spotted in the Mattel panel:
- The Sorceress
- Goat Man
- Beast Man
- Spikor
- Mekanek
- New release of Fisto
I really loved the more monstrous character designs in the movie, so I’m really pleased we’ll be getting Goat Man, Beast Man and Spikor.
Non-Movie Chronicles
The Mattel panel also featured quite a line up of non-movie figures:
- Clawful
- Light (or Flight?) Armour He-Man
- Armoured Teela
- Man-at-Arms
- Buzz Off
- Mer-Man
- Sky Sled
- Panthor
Note the Sky Sled – this means the Chronicles line will be moving into including vehicles. The Masterverse line didn’t get any vehicles at all so that’s really interesting.
Origins
My focus is on mostly on the Chronicles line as that’s where my interest is. But here’s a quick run through of the Origins figures I spotted:
- New versions of figures based on the original vintage card back art:
- He-Man
- Skeletor
- Stratos
- Beast Man (with toes this time!)
- Mer-Man
- Trap Jaw
- Faker
- Man-E-Faces
- Battle Armor Man-At-Arms
- A new version of Battle Armor He-Man
- Faker Teela (!)
- Two-Bad – finally!
- Laser Light Skeletor
Note that some or all of these will feature build a figure parts for Origins versions of a Shadow Beast and a Masks of Power lizard demon.
So some interesting stuff for sure!
To keep up to date with the latest SDCC related news, I’ve been using He-Man.org and Pixel Dan’s videos on YouTube. Both feature excellent coverage and are well worth a look.
