The news of DC’s new line of chunky paperback collected editions – DC Finest – has certainly got me excited. There has definitely been a bit of a dry spell for classic material from DC, particularly in paperback format. So the new line is really welcome news.
However, I’m sure I’m not the only one who is comparing the released details of the new books against what I’ve already got on my shelves.
I’m going to take a look at Batman and Superman below as there have been recent volumes from DC covering similar time periods.

(more…)I don’t have any examples of the new line in hand, but copies are beginning to trickle out I believe. So, I feel fairly safe to follow up the Marvel ReMasterworks post with this from the DC side of things.
As this announcement from DC suggests, interesting things are afoot. My collector’s antennae are already twitching!

While reading the earliest Golden Age adventures of Superman and Batman, it really struck me the different approaches to their early Golden Age rogues galleries the stories took.
Let’s take (Yes! Let’s!) take a quick overview:
Just when you think DC has given up on publishing more volumes of classic Wonder Woman material, alongs comes this book!
DC does a fairly good job of keeping the Fourth World material available most of the time. However, whenever I looked for a copy I’d find that I’d just missed the latest edition(s). Once they’re out of print their prices on site likes ebay can rocket up very quickly.
Which is to say that for once, I managed not to fall into this trap and this year and I bagged myself a copy of the 2021 edition of Jack Kirby’s Fourth World.
It’s a bit of a beast!
